What is tooth extraction?
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Depending on your individual dental condition, our experienced dentist may recommend replacing the extracted tooth with a dental implant, denture, or bridge. Dr. Feldman will work closely with you to help determine which option is right for you.
Do I need a tooth extraction?
Dr. Feldman makes every effort to avoid the need for tooth extraction when possible. However, it is sometimes necessary for a tooth to be extracted in order to maintain optimal dental health. We might recommend tooth extraction as the best option for you if:
- Your tooth has become stuck in the gum tissue or jawbone (impacted)
- A large portion of the tooth or surrounding bone has been destroyed by infection and decay
- The tooth is so badly damaged that it cannot be restored with a crown, filling, or other dental restoration
- There is not enough room in the mouth for all of your teeth
If your tooth is severely infected, Dr. Feldman might recommend extraction the tooth in order to keep the infection from spreading to other parts of the mouth.
