What is tooth extraction?

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Depending on your individual dental condition, our experienced dentists may recommend replacing the extracted tooth with a dental implant, denture or bridge. Dr. James Feldman and Dr. Steven Feldman will work closely with you to help determine which option is right for you.

Do I need a tooth extraction?

Our dentists and team make every effort to avoid the need for tooth extraction when possible. However, it is sometimes necessary for a tooth to be extracted in order to maintain optimal dental health. We might recommend tooth extraction as the best option for you if:

  • Your tooth has become stuck in the gum tissue or jawbone (impacted).
  • A large portion of the tooth or surrounding bone has been destroyed by infection and decay.
  • The tooth is so badly damaged that it cannot be restored with a crown, filling or other dental restoration.
  • There is not enough room in the mouth for all of your teeth.

If your tooth is severely infected, Dr. Feldman might recommend extraction of the tooth in order to keep the infection from spreading to other parts of the mouth.
